Straightforward guidance for drivers renting a vehicle in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County — and for the owners and fleets listing them.

Getting started as a driver

What a rideshare or delivery vehicle rental is, how it differs from leasing or owning, and what to line up before you contact a provider.

  • Rentals here are weekly or monthly, with no long credit-based contract and no ownership at the end.
  • Decide which platforms you will drive for first — Uber, Lyft and delivery apps each have their own vehicle rules on age, doors and condition.
  • Have your driver licence, driving history and platform account ready before you inquire; most providers ask for these first.
  • Compare total weekly cost, not the headline price: deposit, mileage limits and overage charges change the real number.

Costs and budgeting

Weekly and monthly pricing, deposits, mileage allowances and overage charges, and how to compare total weekly cost between providers.

  • Add up the weekly price, the weekly share of any deposit you cannot recover, fuel or charging, tolls and parking.
  • Check the mileage allowance against your real weekly driving; overage is charged per mile and adds up quickly.
  • Ask whether the deposit is refundable, what can be deducted from it and how long a refund takes.
  • Ask what happens on a slow week — some providers offer a lower minimum term or a pause, others do not.

Insurance questions to ask

The questions worth asking every provider about coverage, rideshare endorsements and what happens after an incident.

  • Is insurance included in the weekly price, or do I need to arrange my own policy?
  • Does the coverage allow commercial or rideshare use, and is a rideshare (TNC) endorsement required?
  • What are the deductibles for collision, comprehensive and liability, and who pays them?
  • Rideshare platforms provide their own coverage only during parts of a trip — what covers me while the app is off?
  • What is the exact process after an accident, and do I keep paying the weekly rate while the vehicle is repaired?

Requirements and eligibility

Licence, driving history, platform approval and provider requirements — what providers commonly ask for and why it varies.

  • Most providers ask for a valid licence, a minimum age, a driving record check and an active platform account.
  • Requirements are set by each provider and its insurer, so a decline from one does not mean a decline everywhere.
  • Credit requirements vary: some listings state none, others run a soft or full check — the listing says which.
  • Ask upfront which documents are needed so a decision is not delayed after you have paid a deposit.

Maintenance and support

Who handles service, roadside assistance and replacement vehicles, and how downtime is usually managed.

  • Confirm who pays for routine service, tyres and brakes, and where the work must be done.
  • Ask whether roadside assistance is included and what number you call at 2am.
  • Ask whether a replacement vehicle is provided during repairs and how quickly.
  • Get the support hours and preferred contact method in writing before you start.

For vehicle owners

Preparing a listing, writing clear terms, responding to inquiries quickly, and keeping availability accurate.

  • Clear photos and honest mileage, deposit and insurance terms cut down on wasted back-and-forth.
  • Answer quickly — drivers usually contact several providers on the same day.
  • Confirm availability regularly so your listing keeps showing as available now in search.
  • State your requirements plainly so drivers who cannot qualify do not spend your time.
